We have completed our research in to the issue that you reported with your DriveSmart 55 device not working with the POI Loader program. Not only do they want you to use a Widows Computer, they wand you to use an Android phone with it. I can't seriously think that they would shoot themselves in the foot as bad s this. Here is the email I just received from Garmin. But whatever they did they surely f**ked up. I don't know if they were trying to make the newest models compatible with USB3 or not. Whats really disappointing is the the 61 and 51 models worked. This isn't a Deal Killer for me, but it may be for other folks. Tech Support created a ticket so that I'm in the loop for any fixes or repairsrs. So if you are a MAC user, and use the Finder to access your GPS for file maintenance, etc, I do not recommend you Purchase the Drive, DriveAssist, or the DriveSmart just yet, until Garmin fixes this problem. Now the POI loader problem can be gotten around by using a SD card to load the POIs too. You also cannot obtain the garmindevice.xml to make a clone. So now, if you own a Mac, you cannot load POIs directly to the Unit. Guess what else doesn't work! POI loader, and MapInstall. However, I have a 2012 MacBook Pro and I only have a USB 2.0 port, and I cannot see it either. Garmin Express and Garmin BaseCamp can see it. Ok, after talking with Garmin, it appears the they know that the Mac with the Single C USB port cannot see the 55 as a Drive. I'll try to call Garmin Support tomorrow and see if I can take this any further. I'm not sure where Garmin intended to go with this. (This indicates the USB cord and USB connectors are good.) In Windows it tries to load and install drivers, but it fails to install software and won't mount the Drive. It show up in Linux as a USB drive, but won't mount with a MTB Device failed to connect. I have tried to mount it on a MAC, Windows 7, and even an Ubuntu Linux. I have tried the MTB and USB settings to no avail. You also can't g o in and delete all the extraneous files that take up space, like the needed language and help files. But without being able to mount as a Drive, you cannot get to a copy of the garmindevice.xml file to create a clone for map updating. It connects to Garmin Express and to Basecamp and you can do the usual stuff there. It seems you can no longer Mout the Unit as a Drive in you Finder(MAC) or your Directory(WINDOWS). There seems to be a problem with the New Drivesmart 55, and may be 65.
